Learn how to make delicious Moong Dal Khichdi at home from our chef Smita Deo on Ruchkar Mejwani. <br /> <br />Moong Dal Khichdi is a tasty and healthy main course rice recipe where moong dal (lentil) is pressured cooked with rice and then flavored with garlic and cumin seeds. <br /> <br />Ingredients: <br /> <br />2 Cups Kolam Rice <br />1 & 1/2 Cup Moong Dal <br />1 Litre Water <br />1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder <br />1/4th tsp Asafoetida <br />Salt to taste <br />Coriander Leaves <br /> <br />For Tempering <br />1 tbsp Ghee <br />10 Garlic cloves <br />1 tsp Cumin Seeds <br />1/2 tsp Asafoetida <br />7-8 Dried Red Chillies <br />10 Curry Leaves <br /> <br />Method: <br /> <br />- Soak the rice and moong dal in water for 5-10 minutes. <br />- In a pressure cooker add the moong dal and rice. Add sufficient water. <br />- Then add salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Give a stir. <br />- Pressure cook the dal and rice for 4-5 whistles on medium flame. <br />- After the khichdi is cooked add little water to it and adjust the consistency. <br />- For tempering in a pan heat some ghee. <br />- Then add chopped garlic, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies and curry leaves. Give a stir. <br />- Add this tempering to the khichdi. Mix well. Garnish it with coriander leaves. <br />- Moong Dal Khichdi is ready to be served.
